Our second day of the local trip began with devotions, led by Gabrielle Perez and Julia Novaes. They talked about the importance of standing up for your faith and appreciating how privileged we are to live where we do, and to go to the school that we do. After devotions and prayer, the local trip group gathered the extraordinary amount of donations, in both the high school and downstairs office, and loaded them into the bus. We left for 4 KIDS, in Ft. Lauderdale, with an attitude for serving. When we arrived at 4KIDS, everybody was extremely nice, and we were directed to a conference-like room where we were given free breakfast and a brief introduction to what the 4KIDS organization is all about. The introduction was extremely eye opening. We were told about how so many kids are brought out of their homes, due to various reasons, such as forms of physical abuse and/or the inability of their parents or guardians to take care of them properly.
Next, we were guided to the 4KIDS warehouse, which is the place that all of the donated children's clothes and games go to. We spent the morning to the afternoon sorting out children's clothing, making sure every article was placed into the age appropriate bin. We all worked together to make sure that the clothes were in the correct category, which would make finding them that much easier for the children who would need them, after unfortunately being taken from their homes, possessing only the clothes on their back.
Around the afternoon, the local missions left 4KIDS and went out for lunch. We then traveled back to 4KIDS to finish any work that needed to be done, prayed once finished, and then departed back to Boca Christian. Today was a very productive day and we look forward to working with the children at the Florence Fuller Center next week!
