THURSDAY MARCH 7,2024
Today, in the morning we went to Florence Fuller (West side). When we walked in we were shown our rooms and the women told us what to do. Vicky, Ava and I were told to wipe down all the counters and toys which took a while. While I was wiping down counters a girl started making conversation with me, like what my name was, where i’m from, etc. She then proceeded to ask me what my shirt spelt, which was Jesus. I found this really interesting because not until then did I see how that little girl and probably many others have never even seen or heard the name Jesus. After we cleaned, we all stepped out of our comfort zone and helped children learn their alphabet sounds and how to write the letters. Vicky, whose first language was not English, found this difficult. The child I helped didn’t even know half the alphabet.
Later in the afternoon we went to Boca Helping Hands. There we all had various jobs like bagging food and putting food in boxes, etc. The food to me didn’t seem very appetizing or something I would eat, but to the person getting the bag it will probably make their day.
In conclusion, the first day of missions opened my eyes to things in the world that I had known but never experienced. It showed me that you don’t have to travel to other states or countries, people need to be helped and showed Jesus right where we are.
