Today was the very first day of the local mission trip and it couldn’t have gone better! We started off the day at Florence fuller, a daycare center for young children. We stayed with the two year olds most of the time and we soon began to affectionately refer to them as “Velcro babies” because they all wanted to do is be carried at all times. We played dress up with them and also made many pretend meals. All the babies were so adorable and it was so hard to leave! Later in the day, we went over to Boca Helping Hands. Our job was to make little boxes of food for children who mostly received food from their school lunch program, and didn’t have meals on the weekends. We packed many boxes with a variety of different foods that these kids would enjoy. It was a little repetitive, but when I thought about how the box that I was packing was often times all a child had to eat on the weekends, it gave me the motivation to continue. Our first day really opened my eyes to the work that we could do in our own backyard. It showed me that we don’t need to travel very far to make a difference.
